Getting Started

The first thing you need to do is contact us! We want to meet you! You will receive a phone call and/or email from us shortly with a pre-screening for you to fill out. We want to make sure there is nothing major that would make you ineligible to donate before we have you fill out our official application.

If your pre-screening looks good, we will email you our official application. Fill it out! You will receive an email response from us within 24 hours. We’ll let you know if we have any questions for you. If we do, answer them! The sooner you respond to us, the sooner you can get your freezer space back!?

If everything on your application is A-Okay, we will send you an email letting you know that your donor kit has been sent out. This email will also have two medical consent forms attached for your doctors to fill out. Please print, sign and return the consent forms to us via email, fax, or snail mail. If you already have an appointment with your doctors, please feel free to take them with you! If not, we would be happy to forward them on to your doctors for you. Just let us know!

Donor Kit

When you receive your kit in the mail, open it! There will be complete instructions inside. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Get the thermometer out and place it in the deepest part your freezer for at least one hour. Email us with your temperature reading!
  • Email us the full barcodes (letters and numbers) on all three of your blood vials and both DNA swabs. We want to make sure they have your correct donor information on them.
  • Complete the DNA swabs per the included instructions and pop them in the mail! Remember, the DNA swabs are sent separately from the blood using the white business reply envelope provided.
  • After we receive your freezer temperature reading and barcodes, we are able to place the order for your blood draw. We will email you to let you know your order has been placed. Someone will call you to schedule an appointment for an examiner to come to your home to perform the draw.
  • Schedule the blood draw only Monday-Thursday in the morning or early afternoon.
  • Get out the small gel packs out of the kit and place them in your freezer.
  • On your appointment date, a licensed female phlebotomist will come to your home to draw your blood using the blood vials from your kit. Follow instructions for packaging it up (remember the gel packs!) and the phlebotomist will ship the sample using the prepaid FedEx envelope in your kit.

Once we receive your completed consent forms, DNA swabs, and results of your blood test, you are qualified to donate your milk through NMB! Yay! We’ll send you an email letting you know you’re qualified. We will also ask how many ounces you have to send at that point and if you need extra storage bags for future donations.

Shipping Your Donation

Once you receive your cooler, open it up! There will be packaging instructions included, but here are some pointers:

  • Get the gel packs out and place them in the freezer for at least 48 hours.
  • When you are ready to ship, call FedEx (1-800-GOFEDEX) to schedule a pickup for your overnight delivery package. Remember, you can only ship Monday-Thursday! Our lab is closed on the weekends, so do not ship on Fridays please!
  • Package up your generous donation per the instructions included and wait for pickup!
  • Pat yourself on the back and do a happy dance- you are officially a breast milk donor!

We will email you to let you know when your cooler arrives safely at our lab the following day ?
